Pune: The 19th ISAMPE National Conference on Composites (INCCOM-19) commenced Thursday (January 30) at Four Points Sheraton, Pune, bringing together experts from research institutions, academia, and industry under the theme “Innovative Technologies in Composites.”

The two-day event is jointly organized by the Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) [R&DE(Engrs)], a DRDO laboratory, and the Indian Society for Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering (ISAMPE) Pune Chapter.

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Chairman, DRDO, in the presence of Prof. Prateek Kishore, DG ACE Cluster, Dr. A. Rajarajan, Director, Satish Dhawan Space Center & President, ISAMPE, along with other distinguished delegates from the defence, aerospace, and industrial sectors.

Dr. Makarand Joshi, Director, R&DE(Engrs) and Chairman, Organizing Committee, and Dr. Mayur Godbole, Convenor of INCCOM-19, welcomed participants to this significant gathering aimed at fostering advancements in composite materials and manufacturing technologies.

R&DE(Engrs): Driving Innovation in Composites

A leading DRDO laboratory, R&DE(Engrs) has been at the forefront of composite material development for defence applications. Its latest achievements include:

  • Stealth Radomes, enhancing radar efficiency in fighter aircraft.

  • Sonar Domes for naval ships, improving acoustic performance and structural durability.

  • Lightweight Composite Military Bridges, engineered for quick deployment in combat scenarios.

  • Composite Hulls for Infantry Combat Vehicles, establishing composites as a primary structural material in armored vehicles.

  • Nanoparticle-infused composites and fiber additive manufacturing, paving the way for next-generation applications.

R&DE(Engrs) has also developed cost-effective, out-of-autoclave manufacturing techniques, such as Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) and Resin Film Infusion (RFI), through its state-of-the-art Composites Research Center. These advancements are expected to accelerate innovation in structural composites for defence and civilian applications.

Keynote Addresses & Technical Sessions

The conference features insightful keynote speeches from Shri Shekhar Sardessai, Managing Director, Kineco Limited, and Cmde. Amit Ray, Directorate of Naval Design.

  • Over 50 technical papers will be presented across various domains, including:

  • Advanced mechanics of composites

  • Materials, manufacturing, and 3D printing
