Pune: In a heartwarming example of preserving tradition, a farmer from Khodad (Tal. Junnar) replaced modern DJs with a traditional lazim troupe for his daughter's wedding procession.

The unique decision by Rohidas Narayan Gaikwad to embrace cultural heritage over modern trends has received widespread appreciation from the local community.

Preserving Tradition in Wedding Celebrations

The wedding of Kajal, daughter of Rohidas Gaikwad, and Pratik Jalindar Waikar was held on Tuesday (January 21). Eschewing the increasingly common trend of hiring DJs for such events, Gaikwad opted for a lazim troupe—a traditional group performance known for its rhythmic movements and cultural significance in rural Maharashtra.

The engagement procession, which carried the bride to the village deity's temple, was led by the lazim troupe. In the evening, the groom’s baarat was also accompanied by the traditional troupe as it passed through the village streets.

Local Appreciation

The use of a lazim troupe brought joy to the villagers, who actively participated and celebrated the cultural significance of the event. Gaikwad's decision has been widely appreciated as a step toward preserving traditional values in an era dominated by modern wedding trends.

A New Take on Wedding Processions

This thoughtful gesture not only saved costs but also reminded the local community of the rich traditions that are often overshadowed by modern celebrations. The event served as an inspiration for others to incorporate cultural practices in weddings and celebrations.
