Pune: The Maharashtra government has approved the necessary funds to establish a Marathi Chair at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. With this decision, the process of setting up the center is now in its final stages. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made this announcement while speaking at the ‘Sakal Sanman’ ceremony, held to mark the 54th anniversary of ‘Sakal’ newspaper at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir, Bandra West.
During the event, Sakal Group’s Chief Editor Rahul Gadpale conducted a public interview with CM Devendra Fadnavis, where the Chief Minister revealed details about the government’s commitment to promoting Marathi language studies.
"Earlier, ₹2 crore had been sanctioned for the Marathi Chair at JNU. However, Marathi Language Development Minister Uday Samant informed me today that additional funds are needed. I have now approved the required financial support. With Marathi being recognized as a classical language, it has opened doors for academic programs and language exchange initiatives across universities in India," Fadnavis stated.
Fadnavis also provided key updates on infrastructure projects that will significantly impact the state’s economy:
Vadhavan Port Development: This will be India’s largest port and is expected to create over 10 lakh jobs.
Palghar’s New International Airport: Maharashtra’s third-largest airport will be built in Palghar district, following Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This project has received approval from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vadhavan Port’s Strategic Importance: The port is expected to drive Maharashtra’s economic growth for the next 30 years and will serve as the first docking destination for cargo ships from Europe.
Fadnavis also highlighted Maharashtra’s strong presence at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where investment agreements worth ₹15.7 lakh crore were signed. He emphasized that these deals have elevated Maharashtra’s standing on the global stage.
In a strong statement, Fadnavis asserted that any instance of discrimination against Marathi-speaking individuals would not be tolerated. His remarks reinforced the government's dedication to preserving and promoting the Marathi language.
