Pune: In an effort to tackle traffic congestion in the Talegaon MIDC area, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is nearing the completion of two truck terminals. The project, spread across two phases, is designed to accommodate 550 trucks and is expected to be completed within two months at an estimated cost of ₹19 crore. The terminals are anticipated to significantly reduce roadside parking by transport vehicles and ease traffic flow.
The Talegaon MIDC area, along with Chakan, Pimpri, and Ranjangaon, is home to various industries, including automobile manufacturing units and small-to-medium enterprises. These industries rely on the movement of raw materials and finished goods by trucks, containers, and trailers. However, the lack of designated parking spaces forces these vehicles to park along roadsides, leading to traffic congestion.
To address this issue, MIDC initiated the construction of two state-of-the-art truck terminals last year. The first terminal, located near the Floriculture Center in Nanoli along the Mumbai-Pune Highway, spans 10,000 square meters. It is designed to accommodate 200 trucks and includes facilities such as restrooms, a cafeteria, parking, and repair shops. The second terminal, situated near Badhalevadi-Mindewadi on a 75-meter-wide road, covers 40,000 square meters and will accommodate 350 trucks.
Both terminals are in the final stages of construction, with plastering and slab work currently underway. Once completed, the terminals will undergo tendering processes to finalize operations, which are expected to begin within four months.
Speaking about the project, MIDC Deputy Engineer Vitthal Rathod said, "Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Talegaon MIDC terminals are in their final stages. The work is progressing rapidly, and we expect completion within two months. These terminals will be equipped with all essential facilities to ensure convenience for drivers."
Project Overview:
Phase 1:
Area: 10,000 square meters
Capacity: 200 trucks
Cost: ₹4 crore
Driver Facilities: Restrooms for 100 drivers
Additional: 8 shops for vehicle repair and maintenance
Phase 2:
Area: 40,000 square meters
Capacity: 350 trucks
Cost: ₹15 crore
Driver Facilities: Restrooms for 200 drivers
Additional: 12 shops for vehicle repair and maintenance
In addition to these developments, similar truck terminal projects were planned in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region, but they faced delays due to technical challenges. As a result, many vehicles continue to park along MIDC roads in these areas, contributing to traffic bottlenecks.
