Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) witnessed a significant increase in revenue during the Diwali season, thanks to a surge in passenger traffic.

The Pune division reported an additional revenue of Rs. 2.85 crore compared to the same period last year, making it the second-highest earner among western Maharashtra divisions. Kolhapur topped the list with a revenue growth of Rs. 3.44 crore.

In November, MSRTC refrained from implementing the usual 10% seasonal fare hike, instead deploying additional buses to accommodate the increased demand. Despite challenges posed by a limited fleet, the efficient management ensured seamless operations and boosted earnings across divisions.

Revenue Performance by Divisions

  • Kolhapur: Rs. 47.92 crore (an increase of Rs. 3.44 crore from Rs. 44.48 crore last year).

  • Pune: Rs. 56.18 crore (an increase of Rs. 2.85 crore from Rs. 53.33 crore last year).

  • Sangli: Rs. 44.42 crore (an increase of Rs. 1.36 crore from Rs. 43.05 crore last year).

The exceptional performance during this festive period has brought cheer among MSRTC employees. Divisional controllers, engineers, depot managers, and operational staff received accolades from Vice Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Kusekar for their commendable contributions.

Despite its ongoing financial difficulties, the MSRTC managed to achieve this revenue growth by maintaining affordable fares and ensuring well-coordinated operations. Passengers overwhelmingly chose MSRTC services for their Diwali travel, reaffirming trust in the corporation’s reliability and affordability.
