Pune: A 49-year-old engineer, who was declared brain dead at Noble Hospital and Research Centre following a road accident, has given a new lease of life to five patients through organ donation. His heart was transported to a hospital in Mumbai, one kidney was sent to a hospital in Baner, while the other kidney was successfully transplanted at Noble Hospital into a 62-year-old female patient suffering from chronic kidney disease. Additionally, his corneas were donated to an eye bank in Pune.
The deceased was involved in a road accident on March 13 and sustained a severe head injury. He was admitted to Noble Hospital, where he was later declared brain dead on March 14. After his family agreed to organ donation, his organs were retrieved on March 15 and transported via a green corridor.
Medical Teams and Coordination
The retrieval procedure was carried out by a team of experts, including Dr. Vikram Satav, Dr. Sangeeta Chandrashekhar, Medical Administrator Dr. Raj Kodre, Medical Social Worker Abhijeet Deshmukh, Pravin Jadhav, and Transplant Coordinator Vishal Torade.
The kidney transplant at Noble Hospital was successfully performed by Dr. Vikram Satav, Dr. Shashikant Asabe, Anesthetist Dr. Sangeeta Chandrashekhar, Dr. Nilesh Wasmatkar, and Nephrologists Dr. Avinash Ignatius and Dr. Rakesh Shinde.
Appreciation for Organ Donation
Dr. Divij Mane, Director of Noble Hospital and Research Centre, expressed deep gratitude to the family of the deceased, stating that their selfless act of organ donation had brought hope and a second chance at life to multiple patients.
Dr. Dileep Mane, Chairman and Managing Director of Noble Hospital, also thanked the ZTCC Pune for its coordination efforts. He further appreciated the Mundhwa Traffic Police and Hadapsar Police Station for swiftly preparing the green corridor, ensuring the safe and timely transport of the donated organs.
