Pune: The untimely death of journalist Prasad Gajanan Gosavi, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident over a month ago, has brought grief to the city of Pimpri.

However, his passing has also sparked hope, as his family’s decision to donate his organs has given new life to five individuals in need.

Gosavi, who was involved in a road accident near Khadki Railway Station while returning home from work on his motorcycle, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Nigdi.

Although his condition initially showed signs of improvement, he suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage, leading to unconsciousness. Doctors later declared him brain dead, leaving his family devastated.

In the midst of their grief, Gosavi’s family made the selfless decision to donate his organs, including his heart, two lungs, liver, one kidney, and eyes.

A green corridor was promptly established from Pimpri to Pune to facilitate the swift transport of Gosavi’s heart to Southern Command Hospital, where it was successfully transplanted into a military soldier.

In addition to the heart transplant, Gosavi’s two lungs, liver, kidney, and eyes were also donated, providing new life to a total of five patients. His funeral rites were performed at the Nigdi crematorium.

Prasad Gosavi worked with Pune-based news portal Policenama, founded by senior journalist Nitin Patil, since its inception. While Prasad may no longer be with us, his legacy lives on through his generous act of organ donation. His heart continues to beat within another, his eyes will allow someone else to see the world, and his other organs have given critically ill patients a second chance at life.
