Pune: Residents of Roseland Residency, a housing society in Pimple Saudagar with 4,500 people, are already experiencing severe water shortages in February, months before peak summer. Due to inadequate municipal water supply, residents have been forced to purchase water from private tankers, leading to financial strain and rising concerns about the upcoming months.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) currently provides only 2.5 to 3.5 lakh liters of water every two days, while the society requires 5.5 lakh liters. The shortage has disrupted daily life, causing inconvenience to residents, especially students preparing for exams.
To tackle the crisis, the society has installed a rainwater harvesting system, but depleting borewell levels have made it ineffective. Repeated complaints to PCMC have gone unanswered, leaving residents anxious.
Major Concerns Raised by Residents
Low-pressure water supply from the municipal corporation.
Disruption of daily life due to lack of water.
Students struggling with studies during exams.
Higher shortage compared to other societies in the area.
Ineffectiveness of rainwater harvesting due to low borewell levels.
Additional financial burden from purchasing tanker water.
Mental stress among residents.
Pipeline Issues Behind the Crisis
According to PCMC officials, a leak and technical fault in the Bhosari water pipeline caused a supply disruption, leading to low-pressure water flow to Roseland Residency. Authorities have assured that the water supply will normalize by Saturday (February 22).
