Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is rolling out a comprehensive cleanup drive to address issues such as garbage accumulation on roads, footpaths, and medians, as well as remove abandoned vehicles and illegal advertisement hoardings.
The initiative aims to improve the city’s cleanliness and aesthetics through collaborative efforts by PMC employees from various departments.
Ward-wise Implementation
The drive will be conducted ward-wise, covering all five municipal zones and 15 ward offices. It will involve more than 1,500 PMC employees from departments such as Solid Waste Management, Encroachment, Sky Signs, Water Supply, and Drainage.
The campaign will commence on December 9 in the Dhole Patil ward office area, with activities in Zone 1 continuing until December 14. The initiative will see employees and officials from different departments working together on the streets to execute cleanup tasks.
Objectives and Activities
The cleanup drive includes the following:
Removing illegal advertisement hoardings and banners.
Cleaning roads and collecting debris.
Removing abandoned vehicles left on roads for months.
Repairing potholes by clearing debris and filling them.
Repairing stormwater drains and chambers.
Eliminating mosquito breeding sites and spraying insecticides.
Engaging schools, colleges, and housing societies to participate in the initiative.
Background and Planning
The decision to launch the drive was made by Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to address the growing clutter and lack of maintenance in public spaces across Pune.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. led a meeting with departmental heads to plan and coordinate the campaign effectively.
The initiative comes as part of PMC’s efforts to enhance the city’s cleanliness and involve the public in sustainable civic maintenance.
