PMPML Seeks Land from Railways for Bus Terminal at Hadapsar Station

Railway Board has allocated ₹135 crore for continued development of Hadapsar Terminal, ensuring future readiness for more train services.

Pune: With the rapid development of the Hadapsar Railway Terminal, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has urged the railway administration to allocate land for a bus terminal near the railway station. This move is aimed at improving connectivity for passengers traveling from Hadapsar to various parts of the city. If land is granted, PMPML can expand its bus services, significantly benefiting commuters.

Growing Importance of Hadapsar Railway Terminal

Hadapsar Terminal is being developed as an alternative railway station to reduce congestion at Pune Railway Station. Operational for the past three years, the terminal has completed its first phase of development and currently has three platforms. Initially, the Nanded Express and Hyderabad Express trains were introduced at this station, though the Nanded Express was later moved back to Pune Railway Station.

The Railway Board has allocated ₹135 crore for the continued development of Hadapsar Terminal, ensuring future readiness for more train services. At present, one express train, one local train, and a few special trains operate from this station.

Need for a PMPML Bus Terminal at Hadapsar

As train services from Hadapsar Terminal are expected to increase once Pune Railway Station undergoes remodeling, the demand for efficient bus connectivity will also rise. PMPML currently operates a bus service between Hadapsar Terminal and the Hadapsar PMPML Bus Station. However, the roads leading to the terminal are too narrow, and there is inadequate space for parking buses.

To address this issue, PMPML has requested five to six gunthas (approximately 5,400–6,500 square feet) of land near the railway terminal to establish a dedicated bus station. This would ensure better accessibility for passengers, allowing many trains passing through Mundhwa to originate from Hadapsar Terminal.

Encroachment on Access Roads Hindering Bus Services

Another major challenge affecting passenger movement is the encroachment on the two narrow roads leading to Hadapsar Terminal. Unauthorized structures and roadside vendors have significantly reduced road space, making it difficult for buses to operate smoothly.
