Pune: A 25-year-old pregnant woman from Ahilyanagar met with a tragic accident that resulted in her being declared brain-dead. Despite the grief, her family made the courageous decision to donate her organs, giving new life to three individuals.

The woman, who was nine months pregnant, was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her child. Her family was excitedly preparing to welcome the baby.

On her way to an outing, she was riding pillion on a two-wheeler when the accident occurred in Ahilyanagar. She suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to a local hospital.

Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section, successfully delivering a healthy baby boy. However, her condition worsened, and she was transferred to Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad for further treatment. Despite undergoing brain surgery, the woman was declared brain-dead.

In this heartbreaking situation, her husband and father consented to donate her organs. The Pune Zonal Organ Transplant Coordination Committee coordinator, Arti Gokhale, confirmed that her liver and kidneys were donated on Friday.

One kidney was transplanted at Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital, while the other was sent to a private hospital in Nashik. Her liver was also transplanted locally, and her eyes were donated as well.

The transplant team at Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital, led by Dr. Vrushali Patil, expressed gratitude to the donor’s family for their noble decision. The critical care team, headed by Dr. Prashant Sakolkar, ensured her condition was managed with utmost care before the organ donation process.
