Pune: 56 Cases of Sexual Assault Reported in Just 40 Days, Rising Concerns Over Women’s Safety

The situation has sparked discussions on the need for better safety measures, more police patrolling, and stricter punishment for offenders to curb such crimes in Pune.

Pune: Cases of crimes against women are seeing a sharp rise in Pune, with multiple shocking incidents reported in recent weeks. The recent rape of a young woman inside a MSRTC bus at Swargate Bus Depot has sparked public outrage. In another disturbing case, a cab driver allegedly engaged in obscene behavior while driving, in front of a woman employed in an IT company.

Earlier, a rape case at Bopdev Ghat had already raised concerns, adding to the growing fear over women's safety in the city. Now, alarming crime statistics have emerged, painting a grim picture of the situation.

Alarming Crime Statistics in Pune

According to official records, the number of rape and molestation cases has been increasing over the years:

  • 2023: 410 rape cases and 738 molestation cases

  • 2024: 505 rape cases and 866 molestation cases

  • First 40 Days of 2025: 56 rape cases and 125 molestation cases

These figures indicate a disturbing trend, with an increasing number of cases year after year. The fact that 56 rapes have already been reported within the first 40 days of 2025 has raised concerns about law enforcement and the effectiveness of crime prevention measures in Pune.
