Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recorded a total revenue of ₹4,955 crore in the 2024-25 financial year, with significant contributions from its Construction and Property Tax Departments.
While the Construction Department exceeded its target, collecting ₹2,601.88 crore, the Property Tax Department collected ₹2,355.09 crore, falling short of its ₹2,700 crore goal but still surpassing last year’s revenue by ₹100 crore.
Property Tax Collection: Special Initiatives and Challenges
PMC deployed special squads, including women-led teams and band squads, to encourage property owners to clear dues. In the final days of the financial year, it resolved technical issues in pending cases to facilitate tax payments.
To counter potential disruptions caused by public holidays, PMC kept customer service centers open from March 28 to 31 and ensured online payment platforms remained functional.
March 31, 2025: ₹31.89 crore collected in a single day
Total collection for 2024-25: ₹2,355.09 crore
Previous year’s collection (2023-24): ₹2,249.99 crore
However, the ₹2,700 crore target remained unmet, which officials attribute to state government restrictions on tax recovery actions in recently merged villages due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Construction Revenue Soars Beyond Target
The Construction Department issued 3,359 building permits, generating ₹2,601.88 crore, surpassing its ₹2,492 crore target. This follows a trend from the previous year, where the department also exceeded its revenue goal by collecting ₹2,407 crore against a ₹1,604.84 crore target.
City Engineer Prashant Waghmare highlighted Pune’s growing appeal for education, employment, and housing, driven by the IT sector and expanding business landscape.
"With improvements in public transport and urban infrastructure, Pune’s residential and commercial real estate market is expanding. The streamlined approval process for building permits has further boosted construction activity and revenue," Waghmare said.
