Pune: The rising mercury levels in Pune and its surrounding areas indicate an early onset of summer. Maximum temperatures are being recorded between 37°C and 38°C across the district, with Koregaon Park reaching 37.3°C in the last 24 hours. The sudden increase of 1°C in a day has intensified the heatwave-like conditions.

Unexpected Rise in February Temperatures

Winter usually peaks in January, with lower temperatures recorded during the early weeks. However, instead of cooling down, the maximum temperature began to rise from the second week of January. The temperature, which had dipped to around 30-32°C, surged to 34-35°C by the last week of January.

Although February was expected to bring cooler weather, climate fluctuations have led to an increase in both maximum and minimum temperatures. Over the last ten days, temperatures have climbed as high as 39°C, pushing Pune dangerously close to the 40-degree threshold in February itself.

In the last 24 hours, the city and nearby districts have experienced a 1 to 1.5-degree increase in temperatures, adding to the discomfort.
