Pune: Holi Special Traffic Drive Nets 6,118 Violators, 402 Drunk Driving, ₹50 Lakh in Fines

A total of 90 checkpoints were set up across the city to monitor reckless driving and enforce traffic rules.

Pune: In a special traffic enforcement drive conducted during Holi and Dhulivandan, the Pune Traffic Police inspected 8,552 vehicles and took action against 402 individuals for drunk driving. This initiative aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing traffic violations during the festive celebrations.

As per the directives of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Police Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, and Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Manoj Patil, a special drive was conducted on March 14, 2024. A total of 90 checkpoints were set up across the city to monitor reckless driving and enforce traffic rules.

Massive Seizures and Fines

A combined effort by 37 traffic divisions and local police stations led to the following actions:

  • 6,118 cases were registered for various traffic violations

  • 386 vehicles were seized

  • ₹50,94,000 was collected in fines

Breakdown of Violations

  • Drunk Driving Cases – 402

  • Triple Riding Violations – 921

  • Wrong-Side Driving Cases – 852

  • Total Cases Registered – 6,118

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Amol Zhende, emphasized that such drives will continue to ensure road safety and stricter enforcement of traffic rules in Pune.
