Pune: The Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard in Pune reported a price reduction in key vegetables such as tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, drumsticks, and beans due to a surge in arrivals on Sunday (December 29). Other vegetable prices remained stable, according to senior traders at the yard.
The wholesale market received between 90 and 100 truckloads of vegetables from across Maharashtra and neighboring states. Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu contributed to the influx with significant arrivals of green chili, cabbage, beans, drumsticks, carrots, peas, and garlic. The Pune region supplied large quantities of tomatoes, capsicum, cucumbers, red pumpkin, onions, and potatoes.
The leafy vegetable section witnessed a slight increase in prices for coriander, dill, and chickpea greens. Prices for radish and spinach saw a decline, while other leafy vegetables, including fenugreek and amaranth, maintained steady rates. Over 1.5 lakh bundles of coriander and 80,000 bundles of fenugreek were received.
Increase in Prices for Papaya, Pomegranate, and Lemons
In the fruit market, prices for lemons, pomegranates, and papayas rose. Watermelon, muskmelon, custard apple, oranges, sweet lime, berries, and guava prices remained stable.
Sunday’s fruit arrivals included 40 to 50 tons of sweet lime, 70 to 80 tons of oranges, 20 to 25 tons of pomegranates, 7 to 8 tempos of papayas, 1,300 sacks of lemons, 9 to 10 tempos of watermelons, 2 to 3 tempos of muskmelons, 1,000 sacks of sapota, 300 to 500 crates of guava, 6 trucks of pineapple, 1,500 sacks of berries, and 2 to 3 tons of custard apples.
