Pune: In a major case of theft along the Pune Metro construction site, a supervisor and a truck driver have been arrested for stealing 40 tons of iron worth ₹20 lakh. The stolen materials were taken from the metro construction zone between Bhakti-Shakti Bus Depot and Khandoba Mal Chowk in Akurdi.

Complaint Filed After Theft Uncovered

The theft took place over a prolonged period, from September 10, 2024, to January 25, 2025. Upon discovering the missing materials, Metro’s General Manager, Ravi Rediyar (resident of Talawade), filed a formal complaint at Nigdi Police Station on January 27.

Following an investigation, supervisor Harishchandra Sunil Kumar (resident of Nigdi) and truck driver Mohammad Anib Patel (resident of Moshi) were arrested.

Metro’s Security Oversight and Internal Investigation

To monitor materials and construction sites, Pune Metro had appointed Anant Sky Infratech as a supervisory agency. Harishchandra was assigned as a supervisor under this agency.

During this period, Harishchandra allegedly conspired with truck driver Mohammad Anib Patel to steal the iron from the construction site. The missing material was discovered during a routine inspection by metro officials, leading to the registration of a case. The Nigdi police are continuing their investigation to determine if any additional individuals were involved in the theft.
