Pune: The admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 25 per cent reserved seats in private schools have not met expectations, with only 46.57 per cent of selected children securing admission so far. To ensure more children benefit from this provision, the Primary Education Department has extended the admission deadline until March 10.

The Directorate of Primary Education is managing a centralized online admission process for the academic year 2025-26 under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 (RTE).

For this year, a total of 3,05,152 applications were submitted for 1,09,087 available seats across 8,863 private schools in Maharashtra. After the selection process, a list of 1,01,967 eligible children was announced by the Education Department.

However, only 47,492 children have secured admission as of now, prompting the government to extend the deadline. Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi stated that this decision was taken to ensure more children can benefit from the scheme.

Residential Proof Guidelines for Admission

The department has also clarified the residence proof requirements for admissions. If a child’s parents do not own a house in the school's locality, any one of the following documents will be accepted as proof of residence:

  • Ration Card

  • Driving License

  • Electricity Bill

  • Telephone Bill

  • Property Tax Receipt

  • Voter ID

  • Passport

  • Aadhaar Card

  • Nationalized Bank Passbook

Education officials handling document verification have been instructed to conduct field visits if required to verify a child's residence, said Sharad Gosavi.
