Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh on Tuesday refuted the accusations made against him and his father, Shailesh Singh, a retired Special DG (IPS), following the registration of a first information report (FIR) by Ratibad police in Bhopal on Monday. The complaint, lodged by their 31-year-old domestic cook, Vipendra Singh, at their Bhopal residence, alleges physical assault, verbal abuse, and unlawful confinement.
Shashank said, "Vipendra came from Rewa claiming to be a cook, but he did not actually know how to cook. My mother and sister saw him taking photographs and recording videos of various rooms. We caught him in the act. My mother asked him to delete all the pictures and videos. We thought about handing him over to the police, but he pleaded with us and began to cry, so we let him go. We did not touch him or mistreat him in any way. My mother spoke to him very politely. He is now making false allegations to protect himself."
If the police come to us, we will request that they retrieve the data from his mobile phone so we can clearly understand what took place," he added.
Vipendra Singh claimed that shortly after he started working, he was subjected to verbal and physical abuse regarding the quality of the food he prepared. When he attempted to resign, his mobile phone was allegedly confiscated and he was reportedly compelled to keep working.
He alleged that Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh and their driver assaulted him.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rashmi Agrawal Dubey stated that the FIR was filed under Sections 296A (obscene act in any public place) and 115(2) (penalty for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).She stated that the victim was medically examined following the filing of the FIR, and that subsequent steps will be determined by the findings of the report, with Ratibad police currently investigating the case.
