Pune: The Sinhagad Road Police have arrested a former employee of an educational institution for allegedly demanding ₹25 lakh in extortion from the institution’s head by threatening to release a compromising video. The accused, identified as Sudarshan Kamble, was formerly in charge of the institution’s CCTV camera technical management but had left the job during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the police, on March 6, 2025, Kamble illegally entered the institution’s premises and sent a message to the institution’s head, claiming that the owner’s son and a female employee were involved in an illicit relationship. He alleged that he possessed explicit video footage and threatened to release it, which could damage the institution's reputation.
To prevent its release, he demanded ₹25 lakh in extortion money and continued to send repeated threats via messages. However, instead of succumbing to pressure, the institution’s head reported the incident to the police. After a detailed technical analysis, the police tracked down Sudarshan Kamble and arrested him.
Senior Police Inspector Dilip Daigade stated: "The accused had previously worked as a technician at the institution but had resigned during the COVID-19 period. He assumed that by falsely claiming to have an explicit video, he could extort money from the institution's head. However, we conducted a thorough technical investigation and successfully arrested him."
The case is currently under investigation by Assistant Police Inspector Sameer Chavan.
