Pune: In response to the recent flooding in the Vitthalwadi and Nimbaj Nagar areas of Ekta Nagari on Sinhagad Road, affecting over 150 homes, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has mandated the immediate construction of a robust flood protection wall. The order, given on Saturday (August 4), aims to prevent future flooding incidents in the area.

During a meeting at Varsha residence with a delegation led by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray, Chief Minister Shinde also instructed the district collector, Pune Municipal Corporation, and the Water Resources Department to collaborate with experts and develop a comprehensive plan for the permanent rehabilitation of residents within the blue flood line.

Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Principal Secretary Brajesh Singh, and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Redevelopment Plans for Ekta Nagar and Sinhagad

Municipal Commissioner stated that approximately 300,000 homes are located within the blue flood line in Ekta Nagari and Sinhagad Road, existing there for many years.

The lack of FSI (Floor Space Index) has hindered developers from undertaking redevelopment projects. In response, Chief Minister Shinde has called for a special status designation to facilitate redevelopment and the preparation of a suitable plan.

The flood caused extensive damage to vehicles in Pune. However, regulatory issues have prevented compensation. Chief Minister Shinde addressed this concern by directing the Pune Municipal Commissioner and District Collector to engage with insurance companies to resolve the matter and ensure that vehicle owners receive timely compensation.
