Pune: In a shocking incident, two men impersonating police officers stole jewellery worth ₹6 lakh from a 56-year-old woman near Wadgaon Bridge on Sinhagad Road. The theft occurred on Wednesday (January 22) afternoon at approximately 3:15 PM, near Shauryashree Banquet Hall.

Modus Operandi

The accused approached the victim, introduced themselves as police officers, and claimed they were on a mission to curb jewellery thefts. They advised the woman to remove her jewellery and store it in her purse for safety.

Trusting their claims, the woman complied and placed her gold ornaments, valued at ₹6 lakh, into her purse. The men, under the pretense of ensuring the jewellery was securely kept, skillfully used sleight of hand to steal the items from the purse. They then fled the scene on a two-wheeler, heading toward Navale Bridge.

After realizing her jewellery was missing, the woman lodged a complaint at the Sinhagad Road Police Station. Based on her account, the police have registered a case against two suspects, estimated to be aged 50 and 40. Police Sub-Inspector Kiran Lite is leading the investigation to trace the culprits and recover the stolen jewellery.

The police have also appealed to the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities and immediately report suspicious behavior to the authorities.
