Smriti Mandhana led the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to their second consecutive Women’s Premier League (WPL) championship earlier this week. Smriti played a crucial role in the victory against Delhi Capitals in the final, and many observed that the success followed closely after personal challenges in her life, such as a canceled wedding with singer Palash Muchhal. Unsurprisingly, Palash became the subject of online jokes following the win, and unexpectedly, Smriti’s mother also participated.

On Friday, following the WPL final, a meme page on social media posted a joke about Smriti's performance, humorously suggesting that her aggressive play against the DC bowlers was as if she imagined her ex, Palash, in each of them. Smriti's mother, Smita Mandhana, endorsed the meme by sharing it on her Instagram account.

The online community responds

Social media users quickly noticed the repost, with some amazed by its boldness and others questioning if it was accidental. One user commented, 'Smriti's mother reposted the post about cooking Palash,' while another expressed admiration, saying, 'I am in awe of the bold aunty. She cooked with this.' Another remarked, 'WTH, Smriti’s mom reposted this.' Numerous comments focused on the repost. Interestingly, by Saturday morning, after screenshots of Smita's resharing went viral, she had deleted the repost.

On Thursday, RCB Women triumphed over DC Women by 6 wickets in the 2026 WPL final, with Smriti being named Player of the Match for her impressive 87 runs off 41 balls. It was later revealed that she had been dealing with a 103-degree fever the night before the match. This victory marks RCB's second consecutive WPL championship.

Concerning Palash and Smriti

Smriti and Palash, well-known figures in the Hindi music scene as a singer and composer respectively, were scheduled to marry last year in Smriti's hometown of Sangli. Although the pre-wedding celebrations commenced, the wedding was abruptly canceled mere hours before the ceremony. Allegations surfaced that Palash was caught cheating by Smriti's colleagues, yet the couple never publicly discussed the cause of their breakup. Recently, Palash revealed his plans to debut as a director with a new project featuring Shreyas Talpade.
