Pune Police have successfully arrested Dattatray Gade, the accused in the Swargate rape case. He was apprehended in the early hours of the morning from Gunat village in Shirur taluka. The police have announced a reward for the person who provided the crucial last tip-off about his whereabouts. The individual will receive ₹1 lakh, and the villagers of Gunat will also be honored for their cooperation.
Arrest Operation Involved Over 500 Police Personnel
During a press conference, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar detailed the large-scale operation that led to Gade’s arrest. More than 500 police officers, including teams from the Crime Branch and Swargate Police, had been searching for the accused in Gunat village for the past three days. The support of around 400 to 500 villagers played a crucial role in the mission.
The police used advanced tracking methods, including dog squads and drone surveillance, to locate the accused. Finally, at 1:10 AM, Datta Gade was taken into custody, and the arrest procedure was completed.
Court Hearing and Special Investigation Team
Gade will be presented in court today. A special investigation team has been formed to handle the case, and a dedicated counselor has also been appointed. Commissioner Kumar emphasized that the case is being handled with priority, ensuring a thorough and swift investigation.
Security Measures for Women's Safety in Pune
Following this incident, the Pune Police conducted a citywide review of women’s safety. Authorities have decided to map out and increase surveillance in isolated areas to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Timely Action and Coordinated Police Effort
Commissioner Kumar also provided a timeline of the police response. The investigation began within an hour of the complaint being filed. Within 1.5 hours, the accused was identified, and police teams reached Gunat village by 2 AM on Tuesday.
He stated that the operation was a collective effort, with police personnel working tirelessly for three days. He commended the officers and staff for their dedication and commitment to ensuring justice.
