The complainant initially accused multiple people but later named only Kapoor in her revised statement.
Police say CCTV shows Kapoor and the woman entering a bathroom together; the case is now registered as a single-accused rape charge.
Pune/Delhi, 4th September 2025: Television actor Ashish Kapoor has been arrested in Pune on charges of rape after a woman alleged he assaulted her during a house party in north Delhi last month, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banathia confirmed the arrest on Wednesday. Kapoor had been tracked by police from Delhi to Goa and later to Pune, where he was finally taken into custody.
According to the complaint, the incident took place in the second week of August when the woman attended a party at a friend’s residence in Delhi. She alleged that Kapoor raped her in a bathroom during the gathering.
The woman initially named Kapoor, the party host, his wife, and two unidentified men, but later revised her statement to accuse only Kapoor of rape. She maintained that the host’s wife physically assaulted her during an argument that broke out after the incident.
Police said CCTV footage and witness accounts show Kapoor and the complainant entering the bathroom together. When they did not come out for a long time, other guests intervened, leading to a heated dispute that spilled outside the building. A police control room call was later made by the host’s wife.
Investigators are also probing the complainant’s claim that the assault was recorded, though no such video has been found so far. Kapoor and the woman reportedly first connected through Instagram before he invited her to the party.
Police said the case, initially filed under sections of gang rape, will now proceed as a single-accused rape charge against Kapoor. He is expected to be produced before a court as the investigation continues.
