Pune: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has demolished unauthorized constructions, including commercial sheds and residential buildings, to facilitate the 45-meter road widening project on Wakad Datt Mandir Road.
Over a three-day operation starting January 6, the municipal authorities removed 137 commercial sheds and 18 residential structures, reclaiming approximately 62,000 square meters of land.
The 45-meter road widening falls under PCMC's 'D' Regional Office. Unauthorized tin sheds and RCC constructions were identified as obstructions to the project.
Notices were issued as early as August 14, 2024, informing the property owners about the impending demolition. When some residents and business owners ignored these notices, PCMC escalated the warnings with public announcements on January 3, 2025.
Despite multiple warnings, the unauthorized structures remained in place, prompting the municipal corporation to initiate the demolition drive on January 6.
