Pune: After four months of persistent investigation, Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested a burglar from Bihar who broke into a house in Kuruli, Khed Taluka, and stole 26 tolas (₹18 lakh worth) of gold ornaments.
The suspect was identified based on his walking style and clothing captured on CCTV footage. Additionally, police tracked down and arrested the buyer of the stolen jewelry from a village near the Nepal border in Bihar.
The incident took place on September 29, 2024, between 11:30 AM and 11:45 AM, when Arvind Prakash Kasale and his family were away for work. The thief broke the door lock and escaped with gold ornaments weighing 26 tolas (approximately 303 grams).
Given the significant financial impact on the middle-class victim, Police Commissioner Vinoykumar Choubey and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shivaji Pawar instructed the police to track down the culprit at any cost.
During the investigation, police discovered a suspicious individual loitering near the crime scene in CCTV footage. However, his identity remained unknown. Officers reviewed footage extensively and studied the suspect’s body structure and walking style.
After months of failed attempts, a breakthrough occurred on January 14, 2025. Police Constable Ganesh Gaikwad, while returning from parade duty, spotted an individual in the Spine Road area who closely resembled the suspect. Upon questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed that he had sold the stolen jewelry in his native village in Dhaka, Motihari district, Bihar.
Following this lead, police traveled to Bihar, conducted a raid near the Nepal border, and arrested the jewelry buyer. The stolen gold ornaments, worth ₹18 lakh, were successfully recovered.

Tullukumar Ramuraut (25) – Resident of Pawar Vasti, Chikhali, originally from Sarata, Dhaka, Bihar
