After getting experts’ opinion, it was found that there was negligence on the part of accused docs

Pune: Three doctors have been booked by the Dattawadi police for allegedly causing death of a patient due to negligence. The accused doctors have been identified as Dr Anant Eknath Bagul (54), Dr Sachin Jamadar (35) and Dr Vishal Ravindra Bhandari (36) of Chaitanya Hospital in Parvati.

According to the police, Deepak Kantilal Dave (29) of Laxminagar, Parvati, had undergone surgery but he did not regain consciousness. He was shifted to Sahyadri Hospital for further treatment, but he died on the same day. The incident took place on June 15, 2017.

After the incident, the police had registered a case of accidental death under the Criminal Procedure Code. Later, after getting experts’ opinion, it was found that there was negligence on the part of the accused doctors as they had not checked whether there is any food particle in the stomach of the patient before he was given anesthesia for the operation. As he tried to vomit, the food particles went inside lung and it led to breathlessness.

The FIR has been registered for the offences under sections 304a (causing death due to negligence) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Senior Police Inspector Anil Patil is investigating the case.
