Pune: Internationally recognised expert on obstetrics and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), gynaecologist Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar was appointed Chairperson of the Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR),  Maharashtra Chapter. She takes over the reins from Dr Nandita Palshetkar and is set to hold the position for a period of two years.

As chairperson, she has set her sights on making reproductive healthcare and infertility treatment available to all.

Speaking about the need of awareness about infertility, Dr Tandulwadkar said India is of late seeing a paradigm shift in the number of infertility cases.

“Two prominent causes for this are Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and decreasing ovarian reserve. Changing lifestyles including pollution, food habits, chemical and radiation exposure are the main causes for this. Women in their early 30s who come to us with ovarian reserves that look like a 40-year-old’s. It is the need of the hour to educate people about such lifestyle modifications. This is why as part of our social initiative, we would be organising awareness camps for the younger generation at schools, colleges and other forums,” said Dr Tandulwadkar.

She said it is her privilege to be able to mentor many doctors while providing them knowledge and expertise regarding advances in infertility.
