The Deccan Police have identified the suspect as 25-year-old Aniket Ramakant Sontakke, a Chakan resident from Dharashiv district, who was in Pune for educational purposes. The incident took place at approximately 7 p.m. near the Vitthal Ramji Shinde Bridge, located between the Omkareshwar temple and Balgandharva Rangmandir, during a time of heavy traffic.

According to the police, Sontakke was driving at high speed when he initially collided with a two-wheeler near Balgandharva Rangmandir. The motorcyclist sustained only minor injuries and decided against filing a complaint, mentioning that the damage was negligible. Shortly after, Sontakke lost control and crashed his car into the divider, resulting in considerable damage to his vehicle.
