Drone Use Banned During Palkhi Ceremony in Pune

Police take precautionary steps to ensure safety and prevent misuse

Pune, 18 June 2025: In view of the upcoming palkhi ceremonies of Sant Shri Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, the Pune City Police have announced a complete ban on the use of drone cameras in the city from June 20 to 23. This decision has been taken as a preventive measure to maintain law and order during the massive gathering of devotees.

Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma issued the order, highlighting that every year lakhs of warkaris, dindis, and tourists gather to participate in the revered palkhi processions. To ensure that no untoward incident or chaos occurs during this sacred event, the administration is implementing strict security measures.

According to the police, there is a risk of drones being misused for unauthorized photography, violation of privacy, or aerial filming of sensitive areas during the event. To prevent such incidents, drone operations have been completely prohibited within city limits during the specified period.

However, the ban does not apply to official aerial surveillance operations. Individuals or organizations with written permission from the Pune City Police or the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) will be allowed to operate drones. Anyone else wishing to use drones must obtain prior permission from the authorities.

The police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators of this order. The Pune Police have appealed to all citizens, pilgrims, and organizers to cooperate with the administration to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the palanquin ceremony.
