Pune, 10th June 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical activities, seizing medicines worth ₹24.81 lakh in separate operations conducted in Kolhapur and Pune. The action was taken against violations that could potentially compromise public health and safety.
In Kolhapur, FDA officials raided Medtabs Pharma Pvt. Ltd. and found a large stock of allopathic medicines, including antibiotic injections. During the inspection, the company was unable to produce the required licenses and valid documents for the purchase, storage, and sale of the medicines. As a result, 29 varieties of drugs worth ₹13.62 lakh were seized for alleged violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
In a separate operation, the FDA inspected the warehouse of Cipla Pharma and Life Sciences Ltd. at Wadki in Pune district. Officials found that the packaging of the Schedule H medicine 'Rectin Plus Tablet' contained promotional claims regarding its use.
According to the FDA, such advertisements on prescription drug packaging violate provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. Consequently, medicines worth around ₹11.19 lakh were seized.
The FDA has urged citizens to purchase medicines only from authorized and licensed sellers and to report any suspicious drug sales or illegal stockpiling to the authorities. It also advised pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors to strictly comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
“Any illegal activity related to the manufacture, storage, distribution, or sale of medicines in the state will not be tolerated. Strict and continuous action will be taken against those who endanger public health,” said FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe.
