Addressing a press conference on Monday, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that around 7,500 police personnel will be deployed in and around the Koregaon Bhima area.

This includes nearly 6,000 personnel from the Pune city police and about 1,200 additional staff brought in from outside jurisdictions. Around 1,000 home guards and units of the State Reserve Police Force will also be part of the security arrangement.

To ensure smooth movement of people, traffic diversions have been planned and 22 designated parking locations have been identified. The area will be monitored using police watchtowers and drones, while special teams have been formed to prevent theft and other minor crimes during the gathering.

Separately, Pune Police have announced special arrangements for New Year celebrations on December 31. Checkpoints will be set up at major locations such as Fergusson Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nal Stop Chowk, Hadapsar–Amanora, and Chandni Chowk.

These areas will also be under drone surveillance. The police have intensified the ‘drink and drive’ campaign, with blockades at 60 locations across the city to check intoxicated drivers.

Meanwhile, preventive action has also been stepped up in view of the upcoming municipal elections. Police are keeping a close watch to ensure that habitual offenders do not influence voters or disrupt the election process. Special teams from the Crime Branch and all seven police zones have been deployed to monitor criminal activity and the glorification of crime.

Authorities have also increased vigilance at pubs, beer bars, and liquor shops. According to the police, preventive action has already been taken against around 5,000 habitual offenders to maintain law and order in the city.
