Pune, 24 July 2025: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has ramped up its anti-encroachment drive in Hinjawadi, targeting unauthorized constructions in the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park. In the past two weeks alone, 53 illegal structures have been demolished across Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the tech park. Alongside, efforts to clear stormwater drains and remove debris have been initiated to prevent future waterlogging.

Out of the 53 structures removed, 12 were in Phase 1, four in Phase 2, and 37 in Phase 3. The action comes after Baramati MP Supriya Sule demanded the removal of encroachments and urgent drainage cleanup on July 4. She had warned of a protest in Hinjawadi on July 26 if the work was not completed by July 25. Following this, both MIDC and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) took joint action.

MIDC has also been officially appointed to implement a stormwater drainage system in the area. It is now preparing a detailed report on the required steps to restore natural drainage channels so that water can flow freely to the Mula River. This report will guide long-term flood mitigation and infrastructure development.

All roadside stalls in the Hinjawadi industrial zone have already been removed, and action against other encroachments is ongoing. MIDC has confirmed that future efforts will focus on ensuring that water channels remain functional and no future waterlogging issues arise.

According to Nitin Wankhede, Chief Engineer at MIDC, the organization has begun clearing debris from clogged drains and is working to reactivate the stormwater drainage system. A comprehensive report on long-term drainage solutions will soon be submitted, based on which MIDC and PMRDA will carry out further joint actions.
