Monsoon Takes a Pause After Brief Arrival in Maharashtra; Pune Awaits Fresh Spell as Temperatures Rise

After bringing widespread rain immediately after its arrival, the monsoon has paused across much of Maharashtra. Pune has remained dry for four consecutive days, leading to a rise in temperatures

Pune, 27th June 2026: The southwest monsoon, which made a strong start across Maharashtra soon after entering the state, has now slowed down, leaving several regions without significant rainfall over the past four days.

The dry spell has been particularly noticeable in Pune, where residents are once again waiting for widespread showers as temperatures continue to rise.

Although the monsoon officially reached Pune earlier this week, the city experienced only one day of widespread rain before conditions turned dry. The absence of rainfall has pushed the maximum temperature from 29°C earlier this week to 33°C on Friday, making the weather warmer and more humid.

IMD Forecast

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune is likely to record a maximum temperature of around 33°C and a minimum of 23°C on Saturday. While temperatures may increase slightly over the next three to four days, isolated light to moderate showers are expected in parts of the city and surrounding areas.

Across Maharashtra, rainfall activity has weakened after the monsoon covered the entire state. However, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Konkan and Central Maharashtra, while several regions may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

Alerts Issued as Rainfall Remains Uneven

During the 24 hours ending Friday morning, Brahmapuri recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 38.2°C, while Mahabaleshwar remained the coolest location with a minimum temperature of 17.6°C. Ratnagiri received the highest rainfall in the state, recording 70 mm.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Ahilyanagar. Thunderstorm and lightning alerts have also been issued for multiple districts across the state.

Weather officials noted that rainfall distribution remains uneven, with some regions receiving heavy showers while others continue to experience dry conditions. Residents have been advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes as fresh rain activity is expected in the coming days.
