Munde raises bus frequency, brings in buses for women

Pune: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) Chairman and Managing Director Tukaram Munde has announced new initiatives which came into effect from September 29. The initiatives include special buses for women, new routes on citizens’ demand, increased bus trips on busy routes and some additional buses.

He said the PMPML recently increased monthly rates of bus passes. He said Mayor Mukta Tilak and Murlidhar Mohol, Standing Committee Chairman demanded reduction in prices of senior citizens’ bus passes and the Board of Directors will decide about it at a meeting. He said students and senior citizens’ discount rates are still 50 per cent.
Munde will complete six months in office at this post.

Currently, 11.4 to 11.8 passengers travel daily by PMPML and the income has reached Rs 60 lakh. The city has  1,500 buses and the number of buses will increase to 1,550 in this month.

On the threat letters he has been receiving, he said, “Whoever is trying to frighten me by sending threatening letters should first check my history. By such letters, neither development will stop nor will I take a reverse step in my work.”

The initatives
† Special buses for women have been started on routes Bhosari-MaNaPa Bhavan, Nigdi-MaNaPa Bhavan and on Katraj-Shivajinagar route.
† 13 new routes have been opened as per citizens’ demands. Out of which route number 71 and 72 starting from Sukhsagar will be reaching Kothrud depot while route number 22 will start from Sukhsagar and reach Shivajinagar.
† Three new routes Bhekrainagar-Alandi, Shaniwarwada-Narhegaon (Ambegaon), Hadapsar-Manjri have been started.
† The frequency of buses has been increased on MaNaPa Bhavan-Talegaon Dhamdere, Pune station-Hinjewadi Phase 3 and Warje Malwadi-Chinchwadgaon routes. The frequency of buses has also been increased on Kothrud depot-Kondhwa, Swargate-Dhayari Maruti Mandir and Nigdi-Pune station routes.
† The 11 buses running from main trunk routes will have 1 to 2 minutes frequency including Katraj-Swargate, Swargate-Shivajinagar, MaNaPa Bhavan-Nigdi, MG Station-Hadapsar, Deccan Depot-Kothrud and Shimla Office-Hinjewadi.
