New Year Celebrations: Traffic Curb in Pune; Camp, Deccan & Fergusson College Road to See Major Diversions

Pune Traffic Police announce temporary traffic changes, no-vehicle zones, drink-and-drive checks, and a ban on heavy vehicles from 5pm today to January 1 morning to manage New Year crowds.

Pune, 31 December 2025: To manage large crowds expected for New Year celebrations, the Pune Traffic Police have announced extensive temporary traffic arrangements in Camp (Lashkar), Deccan, Fergusson College Road, and surrounding areas. The changes will come into effect from 5 pm on December 31, 2025, and remain in force till celebrations conclude.

New Year Traffic Diversion

Camp (Lashkar) & MG Road Area

  • Traffic from Y Junction towards MG Road will be stopped at 15 August Chowk and diverted via Qureshi Masjid–Sujata Mastani Chowk route.

  • Vehicles from ISKCON Temple Chowk towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road will not be allowed.

  • Traffic from Golibar Chowk towards Mohmad Rafi Chowk will be stopped and diverted via East Street Road towards Indira Gandhi Chowk.

  • Vehicles from Indira Gandhi Chowk towards Mahavir Chowk will be diverted towards Lashkar Police Station Chowk.

  • Traffic from Sarbatiwala Chowk towards Mahavir Chowk will be stopped and redirected via Taboot Street.

Fergusson College Road

Vehicles coming from Karve Road / Kothrud side may be stopped at Khandoji Baba Chowk and diverted via Law College Road, Prabhat Road, and Alka Talkies Chowk, depending on crowd conditions.

Jangli Maharaj (JM) Road

  • Traffic heading from JM Road towards Fergusson College Road via Khandoji Baba Chowk, Goodluck Chowk, and inner lanes may be stopped at Jhansi Rani Chowk.

  • Such traffic will be diverted via PMC building, Omkareshwar Temple, and Shivaji Road.

No-Vehicle Zones

(December 31, 2025 – 7:00 pm to January 1, 2026 – 5:00 am)

  • Fergusson College Road: From Goodluck Chowk to Fergusson College Main Gate.

  • MG Road: Stretch near 15 August Chowk and adjoining areas.

Heavy Vehicle Restrictions

(December 31, 2025 – 12:01 am to January 1, 2026 – 12:00 midnight)

  • Entry of trucks, dumpers, mixers, bulkers, JCBs, road rollers, and multi-axle vehicles banned at major city entry points.

  • Emergency service vehicles such as Fire Brigade, Ambulances are exempted.

The traffic police will also conduct a special drink-and-drive enforcement drive across the city on December 31. Motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol will face strict legal action. Breath analyser (blow pipe) tests will be used during checks, and citizens have been urged to avoid drinking and driving.
