According to the civic administration, several major projects including flyovers, railway bridges and river bridges are being planned or executed to address increasing traffic pressure in the city. Authorities also aim to complete a few critical bridge projects before the upcoming monsoon.

“₹740 crore has been allocated for traffic planning and infrastructure development in Pune. The aim is to reduce congestion and improve connectivity through flyovers, bridges and better traffic management,” the administration stated.

Three bridge projects, the Ghorpadi railway bridge, the Aga Khan river bridge and the river bridge at Suncity in Karvenagar, are expected to be completed before the monsoon season this year.

In addition, several key flyovers including the Shastrinagar flyover, Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk flyover and the Senapati Bapat Chowk flyover are scheduled for completion within the next two years.

The civic body has also planned additional infrastructure projects for the coming year. These include the Mundhwa Chowk flyover, a river bridge connecting Shivane and Nanded City, the Chandni Chowk to Bhugaon flyover and road widening project, the Sakhar Sankul railway flyover and a railway underpass project at Khadki.

To reduce traffic congestion caused by roadside parking, the PMC plans to introduce a pay-and-park system on five roads on a pilot basis. The civic body said the initiative aims to regulate parking and ease traffic movement in busy areas.

Authorities are also integrating infrastructure development with the city’s expanding metro network. Flyovers are being planned along with metro projects at key intersections such as Kothrud Bus Depot Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk in Warje and Dandekar Bridge Chowk to streamline traffic movement.

The PMC is also planning to provide parking facilities near metro stations by creating amenity spaces at around 30 locations so that commuters can park vehicles and use public transport.

As part of Pune’s development plan, two tunnel projects are also under consideration, one connecting Pashan (Panchvati) to Kothrud (Sutardara) and another linking Hingne Khurd to Taljai Chowk, aimed at improving east-west connectivity and reducing travel time across the city.
