Pune Crime: Woman Strangled to Death For Resisting Sexual Assault Attempt in Wadki; Accused Arrested

Police crack murder case near Dive Ghat within days; accused identified through CCTV footage and taken into custody

Pune, 7th March 2026: A shocking murder case reported from Wadki village along the Hadapsar–Saswad road has been solved by Pune Police’s Crime Branch. Investigators revealed that the woman was killed after she resisted a sexual assault attempt by the accused.

The arrested accused has been identified as Prakash Bibhishan Mane (29), a resident of Wadki Nala in Haveli taluka.

According to police officials, the body of an unidentified woman aged between 30 and 40 was found on March 3 in an open area near a warehouse of a private company at the foothills of Dive Ghat in Wadki village. Following the discovery, a murder case was registered at Fursungi Police Station, and the Crime Branch launched an investigation.

Police teams from Crime Branch Unit 6 began scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace possible suspects. During the analysis, investigators identified a man behaving suspiciously near the crime scene. Based on this lead, the police detained Prakash Mane for questioning.

During interrogation, Mane confessed that he had attempted to force himself on the woman. When she resisted, he became enraged, strangled her, and then hit her head with a stone, resulting in her death.

Senior Police Inspector Amol More of Fursungi Police Station had filed the complaint in the case. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingale and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajendra Mulik, with the Crime Branch team conducting the arrest and investigation.
