Pune, 26 February 2026: The Traffic Police have warned of strict action against vehicle owners who fail to pay pending e-challan fines. Officials said that formal notices will be issued to defaulters, and if the fine is not cleared within 30 days, the driver’s licence may be suspended or the matter may be taken to court.
Authorities observed that many motorists continue to ignore pending e-challan penalties even after committing traffic violations. To address this, the traffic police has begun issuing official notices to such vehicle owners, asking them to clear their dues within the stipulated time.
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav appealed to citizens to cooperate with the initiative. They said, “Vehicle owners must pay their pending e-challan fines within 30 days of receiving the notice. Strict action will be taken against those who fail to comply.”
If the fine remains unpaid after 30 days, a proposal will be sent to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) recommending suspension of the driving licence. The case may also be filed before a court for further legal proceedings.
The official notices will be sent via SMS from the registered mobile number under the authorised ID (MHPECH-G). This process will be carried out between February 26 and March 1. Police clarified that any message received outside this period or from an unofficial source should be treated as suspicious.
Vehicle owners can pay their fines through the official Maharashtra Traffic E-Challan website (https://mahatrafficechallan.gov.in), the Pune Traffic Police (PTP) mobile application, or by visiting the nearest traffic division office where payment can be made through QR code, debit card, or credit card.
Police have also cautioned citizens against cyber fraud. They stated that no APK files are sent by the department, and citizens should never share their OTP with anyone. Only official payment methods should be used, and any suspicious link or call should be reported to the nearest police station.
