Earlier, Gokhale Landmarks had written to the trust expressing its decision to withdraw from the project, citing respect for the sentiments of the Jain community concerning the temple and hostel situated on the trust’s land. Following this, both parties submitted a joint application to cancel the transaction at the Charity Commissioner’s office on Tuesday.

During the hearing, advocates Yogesh Pande (for the petitioners), Ishan Kolhatkar (for the trust), and N. S. Anand (for Gokhale Landmarks) presented their arguments. Advocate Pande argued that the order allowing the land sale was obtained by withholding information and sought to have it annulled. He urged that the transaction remain on hold until the petition is decided.

On behalf of the trust, Advocate Kolhatkar confirmed that the trust was also ready to cancel the transaction, aligning with Gokhale Landmarks’ stance to withdraw on ethical grounds.

Technical formalities such as affidavits and power of attorney submissions were pending during Tuesday’s hearing, leading the Charity Commissioner to continue the status quo until the next hearing on October 30. The entire hearing was conducted online.
