The incident unfolded when police received information about an unidentified body near Gonwadi village in Tamhini Ghat early Saturday morning. Upon investigation, officers from the Warje Malwadi police station traced the body to Rishikesh.

Further inquiry revealed that he had left Pune with his brother on Friday night, claiming they were heading to their ancestral village in Ratnagiri’s Lanja taluka for a temple visit.

The two brothers stopped at Tamhini Ghat around midnight. According to police, an argument broke out between them over Rishikesh’s alleged addiction habits. In a fit of rage, Aniket attacked Rishikesh with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot and fleeing the scene.

Based on a tip-off, Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Tarde and his team traced Aniket to a hillock behind the Vandevi Temple in Karvenagar. He was detained and confessed to the crime during questioning.

After confirming the identity of the deceased, the Warje police coordinated with Paud police, in whose jurisdiction the body was found. Aniket was officially handed over to them, and the investigation is now being led by the Paud police.

The case was cracked under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam and Assistant Commissioner Bhausaheb Patare, with efforts from Senior Inspector Prakash Dhende, Crime Inspector Nilesh Badakh, and officers Sachin Tarde and Sanjay Narle.
