Pune, 26 January 2026: The election for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Pune Municipal Corporation will be held on February 6 at 11 am at the municipal headquarters. The date has been officially communicated by the Divisional Commissioner to the Municipal Commissioner through a formal letter.
Although the civic elections have already concluded, the administrator’s rule will continue until the Mayor is elected. This had created uncertainty over the election timeline, which has now been resolved with the announcement of the polling date. A special general body meeting will be convened in the main hall of the corporation for this purpose.
Out of 165 seats in the civic body, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 119 seats, emerging as the single largest party. The Mayor’s post is reserved for the General Woman category, leading to strong interest and internal efforts among women corporators aspiring for the position.
Following confirmation of the reservation, the civic administration had requested the Divisional Commissioner to appoint a presiding officer and finalize the date for the election. In response, February 6 was approved, with voting scheduled for 11 am.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Secretary’s Department will announce the detailed election programme on Tuesday, January 27. This will include information on nomination filing deadlines and other procedural details related to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections.
