After repeatedly giving defaulters opportunities to clear arrears, the civic body has now begun coercive action against those who failed to comply. A special recovery drive has been launched to speed up collections and meet annual revenue targets.

The PMC has stated that nearly ₹5,500 crore in property tax arrears remains pending, excluding cases under litigation, reassessment disputes, and controversial issues such as mobile tower taxation. The administration has intensified steps like property attachment, sealing, and forced recovery, with a special focus on large defaulters.

A senior civic official said the drive would be tightened further if payments are not made. “All departments have been activated to achieve the recovery target, and action against major defaulters will be intensified,” the official said.

Meanwhile, property tax collection has seen a sharp rise this year. As of now, the PMC has collected ₹2,604 crore, compared to ₹2,007 crore during the same period last year, an increase of nearly ₹600 crore.

The civic body has appealed to property owners to voluntarily pay pending taxes and cooperate with the administration, warning that strict action will continue against non-payers.
