Pune, 28th September 2026: The Maharashtra Government has granted administrative approval of ₹10,502.36 crore for the 31.805-km eastern stretch of the Pune Ring Road between Soratapwadi (Valti) and Varve Budruk (Shivare).
The approval, issued by the Public Works Department on Wednesday, clears the way for land acquisition and construction of the project, which will connect the Pune-Solapur and Pune-Satara highways.
The stretch, being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), will also connect to the proposed Pune–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Greenfield Expressway. The project was initially planned under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
However, as NHAI did not prioritise the work and MSRDC was already bearing the land acquisition expenses in the area, the state government decided to hand over the stretch to MSRDC. The road will follow the alignment previously approved by NHAI.
With the latest approval, the total planned length of the Pune Ring Road will be 168.981 km. The eastern section between Urse, Solu and Soratapwadi, measuring 72.335 km, had earlier received revised administrative approval of ₹19,741.20 crore. Similarly, the 64.841-km western stretch between Urse and Varve Budruk had received approval for ₹22,536.50 crore.
The newly approved stretch has a construction-related cost of ₹5,762.64 crore, covering the main civil work, royalties, maintenance, tree plantation, landscaping and shifting of utility services. Including GST, the project cost stands at ₹9,002.36 crore. An additional ₹1,500 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition, taking the total project cost to ₹10,502.36 crore.
The state government has made land acquisition a key condition for awarding and starting the construction contract. MSRDC must acquire at least 70 per cent of the required land before issuing the letter of acceptance to the contractor. Before issuing the work order, the corporation must have possession of at least 90 per cent of the land.
The government has also approved a loan of ₹6,150 crore with a repayment period of 20 years to finance the project. In addition, ₹4,194.65 crore has been sanctioned for land acquisition, interest during construction and equity or sponsor contributions.
With administrative approval in place, MSRDC can proceed with the land acquisition process. However, actual construction will depend on meeting the prescribed land acquisition conditions.
