Pune Scam: Couple Booked for ₹1.24 Crore Laptop Rental Fraud

Ambegaon Police register cheating case after businessman claims 534 rented laptops were neither paid for nor returned

Pune, 23 December 2025: Ambegaon Police have booked a couple for allegedly cheating a businessman of ₹1.24 crore by fraudulently taking laptops on rent and failing to return them or pay the agreed amount.

The accused have been identified as Dnyaneshwar Shivaji Patekar and his wife, Nutan Dnyaneshwar Patekar. According to the police complaint, the businessman came in contact with the couple in September last year.

They claimed that a private company required laptops on a rental basis and assured monthly rent ranging between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 per laptop.

Trusting their claims, the businessman provided a total of 534 laptops. However, over the past year, the accused allegedly neither paid the promised rent nor returned the laptops, despite repeated follow-ups and demands.

After realising that he had been cheated, the businessman approached the police. Based on his complaint, Ambegaon Police registered a case of cheating. The investigation is currently underway under the supervision of Police Sub-Inspector Waghmare.
