Pune, 30th May 2026: Three police officers are suspended by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar for alleged negligence and dereliction of duty in connection with the toxic liquor tragedy in Hadapsar that claimed six lives. The suspension orders were issued late on Friday night.
The suspended officers include Hadapsar Police Station Senior Inspector Sanjay Mogle, Assistant Inspector Hasina Shikalgar, who was in charge of the concerned police chowky, and Police Sub-Inspector Hasan Mulani from the crime detection branch. Ashok Ippar has been temporarily appointed as the officer in charge.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the officers failed to take effective action against the illegal sale of country liquor in the area despite having prior information about such activities. Police officials said this lapse contributed to the tragic incident.
The toxic liquor cases have sparked serious concern across Pune. Earlier, 12 people had died in a similar incident in Phugewadi, while six deaths were reported from Hadapsar, taking the overall death toll in the two incidents to 18.
Police and excise authorities are continuing their investigation into the illegal liquor network and are expected to take further action in the coming days.
