Pune, 4th March 2026: Pune Traffic Police intensified enforcement against traffic violations during the Holi and Dhulivandan celebrations, booking 455 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol across the city.
To prevent accidents during the festive period, police set up multiple checkpoints and conducted special “drunk and drive” operations. Offenders were fined and their driving licences were confiscated as part of the legal action initiated against them.
In a separate enforcement drive launched since February, traffic police have taken action against nearly 15,000 riders for travelling triple-seat on two-wheelers. The violations have resulted in penalties amounting to ₹1.48 crore, of which ₹88.52 lakh has already been recovered by the authorities.
Meanwhile, around 300 motorists caught in drunk-driving cases were counselled at the Traffic Branch office in Yerawada. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav addressed the offenders and warned them about the serious consequences of driving after consuming alcohol.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious and punishable offence. Riders should avoid triple-seat travel and reckless behaviour that can endanger their own lives and the safety of others,” Jadhav said.
