Pune, 4th August 2026: Punekars have received major relief as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completely withdrawn the water cuts imposed in the city. PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram announced the decision, stating that the city's water supply has stabilized following a sharp rise in reservoir storage due to heavy monsoon rainfall.
The commissioner said the four dams supplying water to Pune have received abundant inflows over the past few weeks. Khadakwasla, Panshet and Varasgaon dams have reached 100% storage, while Temghar dam is nearly full at 98%. With sufficient water available for the city, the civic administration has decided to restore normal water supply.
The withdrawal of water cuts is expected to bring relief to lakhs of Pune residents who had been facing reduced water supply for several weeks. The civic body said there is now adequate water available to ensure uninterrupted distribution across the city.
PMC had introduced water cuts from June 15 after poor rainfall during the early monsoon reduced storage in the Khadakwasla dam project. However, heavy rainfall over the Western Ghats during the first week of July significantly improved water levels.
The civic body had temporarily suspended the cuts for five days during the Ashadhi Wari and later stated that the situation would be reviewed after July 22. As reservoir levels continued to improve, the administration has now decided to permanently withdraw the restrictions.
The decision also follows public demand for restoring normal water supply. MNS General Secretary Hemant Sambhus had submitted a memorandum to the PMC Commissioner two days ago, requesting that the water cuts be cancelled as the reservoirs had reached comfortable storage levels.
With all major reservoirs nearly at full capacity, Pune is expected to receive a regular and uninterrupted water supply for the foreseeable future.
