Pune, 3rd July 2026: Continuous rainfall over the past several days has triggered a minor landslide near the Pune Darwaza entrance of Sinhagad Fort, with three to four large rocks falling onto the stone steps leading to the fort. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The rockfall was noticed on Friday morning during a routine inspection by security personnel of the forest conservation committee. A video of the affected area was recorded after the incident came to light.
According to Forest Conservation Committee Chairman Pandurang Supekar, it is still unclear when exactly the rocks fell, but the landslide was discovered during the morning inspection.
The latest incident follows another minor landslide that occurred on the Sinhagad Ghat road four days ago. Soil and rocks had briefly blocked the road, disrupting traffic for a short period. After being alerted, the concerned authorities cleared the debris using a JCB machine and restored traffic without delay.
With heavy rain continuing across the western ghat regions, authorities have appealed to tourists and trekkers to remain alert while visiting the fort, especially on trekking routes and near landslide-prone areas.
They have also stressed the need for continuous monitoring of vulnerable sections of the fort during the monsoon to prevent accidents.
